WB Police SI Recruitment 2023 Selection Procedure

1. Preliminary examination: 200 marks
2. Physical measurement and efficiency test
3. Main Written examination: 200 marks
4. Interview: 30 marks

Unlike the WB Constable exam, the selection procedure of Sub-Inspector / Lady Sub-Inspector (UB) and Sub-Inspector (AB) in the West Bengal Police has four stages. At first, the Preliminary Examination which act as screening examination. Secondly the Physical Measurement Test (PMT) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET) takes place. Third stage is of Final Combined Competitive Examination and the last stage is Personality Test.

West Bengal Police Sub Inspector Eligibility

Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university or its equivalent. Able to speak, read and write in Bengali language except to the persons who are permanent residents of hill sub-divisions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts.

Age Limit: Age limit for general candidates is min 20 whereas max 27 years. However, relaxation in upper age is admissible up to 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

West Bengal Police Sub Inspector Exam Pattern

1. Preliminary Exam: At first, the preliminary examination is of 200 marks. This exam is consist of questions from General Studies, Logical & analytical reasoning and Arithmetic. There are 50 questions from General Studies, 25 from Logical & Analytical reasoning and 25 from Arithmetic. Duration of prelims exam is 90 minutes. The preliminary examination is an OMR based MCQ type written examination. Medium of exam is bilingual i.e. English and Bengali.

2. Main Written Examination: Similarly, final combined competitive examination has 200 marks. Though the mains exam is consist of three different papers of conventional type. Following three papers are the part of WB Police SI Mains Exam syllabus.

1. First Paper: First paper has General Studies and Arithmetic for 100 marks. It consists 50 marks for General Studies, and 25 marks for Logical & Analytical reasoning and 25 marks for Arithmetic. Duration of Paper-I is 2 hours.
2. Second Paper: Paper-II has a duration of 1 hour. It has questions from English for 50 marks.
3. Third Paper: Paper-III is test a test of local language i.e. Bengali / Hindi / Urdu / Nepali of 50 marks. It also has duration of 1 hour.

3. Interview: The last stage is Personality Test for max 30 marks. A limited number of the candidates selected merit-wise on the results of Final Combined Competitive Examination can appear in the Personality Test. Interviewer may check the candidates’ ability to speak in Bengali language. Min pass mark for the personality test will be 8.

General Studies: Questions to be set to test the General Knowledge of candidates in different spheres.

Logical & Analytical Reasoning: Questions to be set to test the logical and analytical ability of the candidate.

Arithmetic: Questions to be set on the basis of the syllabus of Madhyamik Examination of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.

Main Exam Paper-II (English): Questions may be asked on all or any of the concern domain. Here are some exam preparation tips.

• Drafting of a report from the points or material supplied.
• Translation from Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali, as the case may be to English.
• Condensing of a prose passage (summary/precis).

Main Exam Paper-III (Language): Questions to assess the knowledge of concern language.
