UPSC Engineering Service Exam 2020 Eligibility Norms
What are the minimum qualification and eligibility norms to appear in UPSC Engineering Service Exam 2020? Check the following table.
Nationality: | Any Indian citizen (or) a foreigner who is declared eligible by MHA, Govt of India. |
Educational qualification: | An Engineering degree (Graduate) from a recognized university/institute. |
Age as on 01.01.2020: | min 21to max 30 years, i.e applicant born between 02.01.1989 and 01.01.1998). Relaxation in upper age is admissible for SC/ST/OBC and others eligible candidates as per GoI rules. |
Selection Process of UPSC ESE 2020
Applicants in Indian Engineering Services will be selected by UPSC ESE 2020 Examination through following three stages.
- Stage-I: Preliminary Examination (500 marks)
- Stage-II: Mains Written Examination (600 marks)
- Stage-III: Personality test/Interview (200 marks)
ESE Exam Pattern 2019
Stage‐I/Preliminary Examination: This stage will consist of two objective type (multiple choices based) questions papers and carrying a maximum of 500 marks. Paper-1 for 200 marks and Paper-2 for 300 marks. Only those candidates who qualified in Preliminary/Stage‐I Examination will be eligible to appear in Mains/Stage‐II Examination. Candidates should note that there will be penalty of negative marking for wrong answers in Objective Type Question Papers. One-Third (0.33) of the marks assigned to a wrong attempt question will be subtracted as the penalty.

Stage‐II/Main Examination: This stage will consist two conventional type papers in relevant Engineering Discipline with duration of three hours and maximum marks of 600. Each paper will have weightage of 300 marks. Conventional papers must be answered in English only as question paper will be set in English language only.

Stage‐III/Interview: The Stage‐III will consist of Personality Test. Personality Test will carry 200 marks (with no minimum qualifying marks). Marks obtained by the candidates in Preliminary/Stage‐I Examination, Mains/Stage‐II Examination and Stage‐III (Personality Test) would determine their final ranking. Candidates who qualify in Stage-I and Stage-II will be invited to appear in Personal Interview/ Personality Test. Number of applicants appearing in Interview will be about twice the number of vacancies.
