Any Indian citizen (or) a foreigner who is declared eligible by MHA, Govt of IndiaMinimum educational qualification standard for ESE 2019 is an Engineering degree (Graduate) from a recognized university/institute.21—30 years as on 01.01.2019 (born between 02.01.1989 and 01.01.1998). Age relaxation in upper age limit is admissible for SC/ST/OBC and others eligible candidates as per GoI rules.

UPSC ESE 2019 Selection Procedure

Applicants in Indian Engineering Services will be selected by ESE 2019 through following three stages. Stage-I is a preliminary examination consist of objective type questions for the shortlist of applicants. Stage-II will be Engineering Services (Mains) Examination having conventional type question paper. Applicants who get qualify in Stage-I will only be allowed to appear in ESE Mains 2019. Stage-III is Interview or Personality Test. Marks distribution of all three stages is shown below.

  1. Stage-I: Preliminary Examination (500 marks)
  2. Stage-II: Mains Written Examination (600 marks)
  3. Stage-II: Personality test/Interview (200 marks)

As stated above, the preliminary examination will consist of Two papers containing Multiple choice objective type questions. This test is also have a provision of negative marking. One-Third (0.33) of the marks assigned to a wrong attempt question will be subtracted as the penalty. The detailed profile of ESE 2019 Exam Pattern is shown below in tables.

Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of marks obtained in Stage-I of preliminary exam. Final merit list for the selection will be prepared on the basis of performance in Stage-II Main Exam and Stage-III Personality Test.
