TNPSC Judicial Service Exam Syllabus

Preliminary Examination: Prelims exam consists of only one paper containing 100 multiple choice questions for 100 marks. Each question carries one mark for right whereas answer. On the other hand there is negative marking of 0.25 mark for each wrong answer. Duration of exam is 3 hours.

Main Written Examination: Mains exam consists of four papers. Each paper consists of 100 multiple choice questions for 100 marks. Paper-I is Language translation paper from Tamil to English and vice versa. Remaining three papers are of Law subject. Duration of each paper is 3 hours.

Interview: Those who qualify the mains written examination have to appear in Viva-voce / Personality test. Viva-voce is conducted for 60 marks. Final merit list is prepared on the basis of marks taken together Mains Exam and Interview marks.

TNPSC Civil Judge Preliminary Exam Pattern

TNPSC Judicial Service Preliminary Exam consists of only one paper. There are two parts containing 100 multiple choice questions for 100 marks. Question paper is to be set in both English and Tamil language. Each question carries 1 mark. On the other hand there is negative marking of 0.25 mark for each wrong answer. Duration of exam is 3 hours. This exam is conducted for the sole purpose of shortlisting the candidates for Mains Exam. Marks obtained in Preliminary Exam shall not be counted for determining the final merit list. Pass marks are 30% for SC/ST, 35% for BC/DC and 40% for all Other categories.

TNPSC Civil Judge Main Written Exam Pattern

TNPSC Judicial Service Main Written Examination is Descriptive test. There are four papers is mains exam. Following are the details.

Translation Paper: Translation of passages from English to Tamil and vice-versa.

Law Paper-I: Code of Civil Procedure-1908; Code of Criminal Procedure-1973; Indian Evidence Act-1872; Principles of pleading and Constitution of India.

Law Paper-II: Framing of Issues and Writing of Judgments in Civil Cases.

Law Paper-III: Framing of charges and Writing of Judgments in Criminal Cases.

TNPSC Judicial Service Recruitment 2023 Selection Procedure

Merit shall be made on the basis of total marks obtained by the candidates in the Main Written Examination & Viva-Voce. TNPSC Civil Judge Selection Process is based on the following successive stages.

  1. Preliminary examination: 100 marks
  2. Main examination: 400 marks
  3. Viva–Voce: 60 marks
