Scrutiny of the eligible candidates

Only the candidates will be allowed to appear in recruitment process having the matching eligibility criteria, as mentioned in vacancy notification. Candidates should ensure themselves regarding that they are fulfilling the minimum requisite eligibility conditions, e.g. education, age, nationality etc.

Physical Standard

1. Height
for Male candidate: 163 cms
for Female candidate: 150 cms
2. Chest
for Male candidate: 79 cm (with min 05 cms expansion)
for Female candidate: 74 cm (with min 05 cms expansion)
3. Physical Efficiency Test: Male/ female candidates must pass a physical test covering a distance of 25/16 Kms. within four hours on foot, respectively.

The minimum height standard may be relaxed in case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribes and races such as Assamese, Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Ladakhis, Mizo, Naga, Sikkimese and those from Arunachal Pradesh, Lahaul & Spiti and Meghalaya. Height standard and PET for such candidates will be as follows-
1. Height
for Male candidate: 152 cms
for Female candidate: 145 cms
2. Physical Efficiency Test: Male/ female candidates must pass a physical test covering a distance of 25/16 Kms. within four hours on foot, respectively.

Written Examination

The entrance examination shall consist of two compulsory and two optional papers as follows:
1. General Knowledge Paper [100 Marks]
General Knowledge will include the knowledge of current events and matters of everyday observation in their scientific aspects as is expected from an educated person. The paper will also include questions based on Indian Polity including the Political system and Constitution of India, History of India and Geography. Candidate should be able to answer these questions without any special study.

2. General English Paper (Essay & Precis Writing etc.) [100 Marks]
This paper will be set to assess the understanding of candidate’s power to write English correctly and idiomatically. Questions will be set to test the knowledge of grammar, idiom and usages. Passages will also be set for summary or precis. An essay will also exist there on current topics on State, National, International events. Essay will carry 30 marks. Summary on précis 20 marks and other shall be of 50 marks.

3. Optional Subjects Paper [200 marks each subject]
This paper will include the subjects, as advertised in vacancy notification. Basically the following subjects are included- Agriculture, Botany, Chemistry, Computer Applications/ Computer Science, Agriculture Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science, Forestry, Geology, Horticulture, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Veterinary Science & Zoology. are required to offer any of the two of the above subjects.

Total Eight questions (carrying equal marks) will be set for the question papers of optional papers. Each paper will be divided into two parts viz Part-I and Part-II. Out of eight, the five questions are to be attempted by applicant. One question from each part will be compulsory. At least two questions will have to be attempted from each Part. The standard of examination in these optional subjects will be that of Bachelor’s degree.

Interview / Personality test

Interview or Personality test will have a weight-age of 100 marks. Candidates will be asked questions on matters of general interest. The object of personality test is to assess the personal suitability of the candidate for the service. The test is intended to judge the mental caliber of candidate. This would be a test of social traits and interest of candidate in current affairs including the knowledge of customs, manners and dialects of Himachal Pradesh. Some of the qualities to be judged are mental alertness, critical powers of assimilation, care and logical exposition, balance of judgments, variety and depth of interest, ability for social cohesion and leadership, intellectual and moral integrity.
