Selection to the posts of Civil Judge by Gujarat High Court shall be made on the basis of aggregate marks obtained by the candidates in the Main Written Examination & Viva-voce Test. Prior to these, the candidates will be scrutinized by a Preliminary Examination (Elimination Test). The detailed pattern and scheme of these examinations is available below.

Preliminary Examination (Elimination Test)

The Preliminary Examination or Elimination Test shall consist a total of 100 Marks. The duration whereof will be 2 Hours maximum. There will be multiple choice questions (MCQs) with a weight-age of 01 Mark each. Negative marking will also be provisioned and 0.33 Mark for each wrong answer will be deducted. The language of 75 Questions will be English, whereas the remaining 25 Questions will be in Gujarati language. Syllabus of preliminary test is available here.

Main Written Examination (Descriptive Type)

Only the candidates, shortlisted after the result declaration of preliminary test shall be allowed to appear in the Main Exam. The Main Written Examination shall consist total 03 papers. Paper-I (CRIMINAL) and Paper–II (CIVIL) will have the weight-age of 75 marks each (total 150 marks). Duration of both tests will be 150-150 minutes. Paper–III (GUJARATI LANGUAGE) will have weight-age of 50 marks. Duration of Paper–III will be 90 minutes. Language of Paper-I & Paper-II shall be English. Viva-voce (Oral Interview) Test

Viva-voce Test shall be of maximum 50 Marks. Objective of the Viva-voce Test is to assess the suitability of Candidate for the cadre by judging the mental alertness, power of assimilation, knowledge of law, balance of judgment, clear and logical exposition, skills, attitude, ethics, power of communication, character and intellectual depth etc.
