Staff Selection Commission (SSC) holds the Combined Graduate Level Examination for selecting candidates for filling up different categories of posts in various Ministries/Departments/Organisations of Govt of India.

The detailed scheme and pattern of SSC CGL examination is as follows. CGL exam is conducted in four tiers as indicated below. There is no interview conducted.

Tier-I : Computer Based Examination

Tier-I will be a computer/online based exam. Total duration of Tier-I exam will be 60 Minutes. For Visually Handicapped and the applicants suffering from Cerebral Palsy the duration will be 80 Minutes. Following four sections will be included in the Tier-I exam. Every single section will have 25 questions with weight-age of 50 marks. Total 100 questions will be there with a total wight-age of 200 marks. There will be the provision of negative marking of 0.50 for each wrong answer in Tier-I test.
A. General Intelligence Reasoning
B. General Awareness
C. Quantitative Aptitude
D. English Comprehension

Tier-II : Computer Based Examination

Tier-II will also be a computer based exam. Total duration of Tier-II exam will be 120 Minutes. For Visually Handicapped and the applicants suffering from Cerebral Palsy the duration will be 160 Minutes. Questions will be set on the following four sections. Every single section will have 100 questions with weight-age of 200 marks. Total 400 questions will set with a total wight-age of 800 marks. Negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer in papers of ‘English Language & Comprehension’ and 0.50 for each wrong answer in Paper-I, Paper III and Paper IV of Tier-II.

Tier-III : Pen and Paper Mode (Descriptive paper)

Tier-II will be a Descriptive Paper. The medium will be English/Hindi. This will be about writing of Essays/Precie/Letter/Applications etc. Total weight-age will be of marks 100. Total duration of Tier-III exam will be 60 Minutes. For VH and applicants suffering from Cerebral Palsy the duration will be 80 Minutes.

Tier-IV : Computer Proficiency Test/Skill Test/Document Verification

Data entry speed should be at 8000 Key Depression per hour on Computer. Data entry speed/Skill test will be taken at 2000 key depressions for a duration of 15 (fifteen) minutes. This will be of qualifying in nature. The Skill test will be conducted in the manner decided by the Commission for the purpose.
